My debut novel will be out this week!
I spent a lot of time being afraid to self-publish my books, but I realized that it's worth conquering my fears to put them out there. Starting fresh is just a part of the process. So, I have a book coming out in a few days!
Of course, this wasn't an overnight decision. I've been working with this novel for a few years now, and I made sure to get help with the cover and formatting from those who are more experienced than me. The novel had been properly looked over by an editor over the past few years, and I wrote and rewrote and edited the thing to death. It's ready, and here is the cover!
I came up with the cover idea, and then after passing it on to someone experienced, they made it shine in a way I never could. I'm so proud of this book and all the work that went into it, and I'm super grateful for the help I had along the way.
If you'd like to read more about it, I made a page with a general summary and trailer, and a sweet countdown timer so I can watch in real time as my soul slowly leaves my body due to dread.
Here's a snippet that isn't available anywhere else:
Byleth walked right into the main hall, stunning the angels that passed by. He carried himself with the confidence he'd always known, but this time he basked in his own glory. He was a king and hadn't lost his royalty — in fact, he'd gone higher after his fall. The pigeons didn't intimidate him in the slightest as he headed right for his old throne room.
"Byleth!" A soothing voice penetrated Byleth's concentration and he paused. Gabriel was the only angel that mattered.
"You don't want to see this, Gabriel."
"What are you doing? You said you just wanted to talk! Why are you carrying that?" Gabriel gasped when he took all of Byleth in. His fear pierced the king through his blackened heart. "You're frightening. Your eyes... those horns... You're a devil."
Byleth shrugged it off. "I know. I wear it well."
"No, you don't!" Gabriel backed away as the other angels paused to stare. "You lied to me! You're not Byleth anymore. Not the Byleth I loved." Tears fell from Gabriel's eyes that glowed white in his upset. "You're a monster."
Byleth swallowed the pain the insult brought forth and turned to face the other angels. The tiger's growl that emitted from deep in Byleth's chest was that of a demon, and it sent the angels scrambling to get back to their duties. "I am a monster. And I'm damn proud of it. So fuck off or face this." Byleth held the blade in the air. "What's your choice?"
Gabriel stepped forward and took Byleth's hand, which caught the fallen king by surprise. "If you really are the monster you say you are, and Byleth is no longer there, then strike me first."
Authors who write trans men/trans masc characters!
I decided to start a public list on Twitter for authors who write trans men and trans masculine main characters. I've noticed over the past few years while talking about my book, which has a trans man in it, that we're a group of the transgender community that is sorely underrepresented in fiction — adult fiction to be more specific. I've heard from many on Twitter who agree they have trouble finding themselves represented in ways they can relate to.
I truly didn't expect my post to be seen, but it has exploded and the list is still growing! I've made connections with some amazing writers who write trans men and trans masculine characters, and at the same time, I've seen just how badly we need more representation in adult books!
I want this list to be a place where these authors can also get some support for their writing, so please follow and support these writers! They have books published right now you can buy and read, and some have books in the works that they plan to publish soon.
That’s it for now. Exciting things coming soon!
